Maldives Inland Revenue Authority officially launches Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS) for tax payers. Finance Minister Hassan Zareer inaugurated the system.

Any party that has registered the green tax may use it to provide information on tourists arriving at tourist establishments.

Through the system, a filing will also be the information that needs to be sent to the Ministry of Tourism, and it should make it much easier for tourist facilities to fulfilll that obligation, MIRA said.

The authority said the system’s integration with facilities’ own systems could eliminate manual reporting work.

All parties are welcome to use the system, but MIRA will onboard tax payers in two stages.

This will have to be used by hotels, resorts and guesthouses with more than 50 beds from November.

Other parties registered for the green tax must start as of 1 January 2027.

The deadlines for filing green tax returns and paying the tax will not be extended.

Payments and returns will continue to go through MIRAConnect as now.

Tax payers who report guest information on the new system will no longer have to upload an extra information sheet with the green tax return.

MIRA said the information will be prefilled into the return when it is filed.
